“I’m walking on sunshine…woAHH.”

This classic pop tune brought to us by Katrina and the Waves is luckily a reality for many of us Californians who experience sunny skies most days. And sometimes, we might even take this blessing of sunshine for granted.

Did you know the impact that natural sun rays can have on your mental health? It has several benefits that help lift your mood and improve your overall mentality and well-being.

The new year can bring so much joy and happiness, but also feelings of mental overload as new goals and routines are established. A brief walk outside can do wonders to clear the mind with fresh air and a break from distraction. After all, exposure to sunlight increases the brain’s release of serotonin, a hormone that is associated with boosting mood and helping a person feel focused and calm.

Encourage good practices for mental health in both yourself and others this season.
