Given by Light

Every year is a similar story.

You wrestle with a tangle of old Christmas lights, navigate a ladder and colder temperatures to string them along some garland, and plug them in…only to realize they’ve burnt out.

Anger, rage, and maybe even defeat builds up inside you, and you may even think “why do I even try?

No, the daunting chore of hanging holiday lights is not what we look forward to each year.

What we look forward to inevitably follows, though: a sense of peace, delight, nostalgia, magic, and tranquility as we gaze at the lights of our home and community every night.

So as you approach the old box of Christmas lights, and consider the task ahead, remind yourself of the gift you will bring to those who pass by, and are in need of your light.

Hope Given by Light Challenge

String Christmas lights outside of your home this year to share the light with others. Consider doing the same for an elderly neighbor or friend who might be in need of an extra hand.

“Darkness cannot drive out darkness: only light can do that.”
