Background

Leah was born and raised in Indianapolis, IN, where she recalls some of her best childhood memories being curled up under a warm blanket, snuggling with her parents during cold, snowy nights, chasing lightening bugs with her little brother and big sister on hot, humid summer evenings, and playing softball, with her dad as the coach, during summer vacation. Leah moved to Torrance 6 years ago after an extensive exploration of many cities across the globe including New York, Chicago, Madrid and Tel Aviv. Being close to the beach is now a learned must have.

Leah graduated from North Central High School in Indianapolis, IN, which is one of the largest schools in the state. During her Junior and Senior years in high school, she was in a program called Learning Unlimited. This volunteer program allowed her to gain insight into the world outside of her everyday life. Leah continued her education with a double major in Communications and Spanish at Indiana University, spending her entire senior year abroad at La Universidad Complutense.

Before Green Hills, Leah worked in the restaurant industry. Her family owned restaurants affording her the experience, at the young age of 15, from washing dishes to line cook to waiting tables. She moved to New York City after college and accepted a management position with Fig & Olive at their Midtown Manhattan location. Shortly after, she was awarded an opportunity to develop their off-site catering and delivery department. Leah thoroughly enjoyed creating this business from the ground up.

The Green Hills Community

Leah used a personal experience when making the decision to accept the Family Service Advisor position with Green Hills. After suffering a significant loss a few years ago and a not so pleasant experience with the cemetery her parents chose for her younger brother, she was confident there was a better way to assist families during the toughest day of their life and ensure their loved ones life would be celebrated perfectly. Her decision was further verified after speaking with some of the Green Hills team and witnessing how kind they were and what good work they do.

Leah’s most memorable moments at Green Hills to date was a quick stop at the pond to allow the young children of a grieving family a few moments to lift their spirits, if only momentarily, while they watch the young ones feed the ducks with huge smiles. Another was the surprise basket filled with goodies just before the holidays from another department as a sign of gratitude. It solidified her belief Green Hills is its own family comprised of staff who appreciate, value, and understand what it takes to keep the park running and maintain a kind, inviting environment.

Off the Clock

Leah volunteers with American Cancer Society as a member of their CalSpirit Planning Committee which hosts a tasting event that includes some of the area’s top restaurants. Her role includes assuring all of the restaurants are organized and have what they need to operate during the event. Her favorite travel experience has been to Nicaragua. The natural beauty of this country blew her away. Her most favorite travel destination has been Israel. She instantly fell in love with it the first time visiting, so she decided to make it home and packed up her belongings.
