In the words of Katrina and the Waves, “I’m walking on sunshine…woooah.”  Luckily for Californians, this is a reality most days of the week, and cannot be taken for granted!
A healthy dose of the sun’s natural rays has many mood lifting benefits that are important for mental health.  There is a reason we are all so drawn to the ocean.
In a time where most of us are having to stay at home, it can be difficult to combat all that comes with isolation.  Though we may not be able to get out and about to gather with friends and family, a simple walk outside can go a long way.  Exposure to sunlight increases the brain’s release of serotonin, a hormone that is associated with boosting mood and helping a person feel focused and calm.
Encourage good practices of mental health in yourself, and in others this season!
Hope (by) Challenge: Take 10 minutes in the morning, and 10 minutes in the afternoon to walk outside (at the nearest available park, around your house, in the parking lot), take in the outside air, breathe in the ocean breeze, and soak in the rays of sunshine.
